Spanish

At Hempshill Hall, we want to develop an interest in learning Modern Foreign Languages which will provide an opening to other cultures. Our high-quality languages education fosters pupils’ curiosity and deepens children’s understanding of other cultures around the world. Through their Spanish learning, pupils are given the opportunity to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing. As stated in the National Curriculum for languages, this is with the long-term aim of providing children with the foundations to learn other languages later in life and equipping children to be able to work and study in other countries. Our rationale for teaching Spanish is aligned to most Nottingham City Schools. We recognise that it is the fourth most widely spoken language in the world, and the most spoken European language outside of English. We believe early exposure to Spanish will empower our pupils in their future. Our ambitious MFL curriculum goes beyond the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum, with well sequenced Spanish lessons taught across KS1 and KS2.
