Foundation 1 Summer 1 2024

Welcome back after the Easter break!

We hope you have had a lovely Easter and you managed to enjoy the spring sunshine with your families. We are looking forward to getting started on our new topic this half term, ‘Growing and Changing’.

During this half term, our key stories are ‘Sam plants a sunflower’ by Kate Petty and Axel Scheffler and ‘The very hungry caterpillar’ by Eric Carle.

F1S124-1
F1S124-2

We will explore these books as we learn about how plants grow and what they need. We will be planting seeds of our own and talking about watering them and making sure they get plenty of sunshine. We will also be learning about the life cycle of a caterpillar.

To support your child with our topic, you could have a go at planting some seeds at home and watching their progress together. You could also look out for bugs and minibeasts while out and about and encourage your child to make comments about what they notice. At nursery, we will be discussing our environment and what we can do to protect it. You could look at what you are doing in your home to protect our planet, such as recycling, walking/cycling to school or using reusable cups and bottles.

We would like to say a huge well done to all the children for taking part in our Easter bonnet parade last half term. We are sure you will agree, they did an amazing job of retelling our story and singing the springtime songs. Thank you to parents/carers for supporting your child in making their excellent Easter bonnets at home. They were truly magnificent.

We look forward to a busy half term ahead and if you have any questions, please come and see us.
