Year 3 Summer 1 2024

Welcome back Year 3! We hope you had a fantastic Easter with your family and friends and are excited to return to school for the summer term.

Following on from our hugely successful Shakespeare week before the Easter holidays based on “Romeo and Juliet”, our topic for the upcoming half term is “The Merchant of Venice”.

We will be learning all about the different characters, settings and the plot of one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays. These lessons generate some fabulous writing from the children so the more your children talk to you at home about the plot and the characters the better their understanding will be.

We will be using the Orchard Classic version of the text in school called “The Merchant Of Venice – A Shakespeare Story” by Andrew Matthews and Tony Ross.

We are embarking on an ambitious sewing project this half term and would really value some parent helpers. These lessons will take place on Wednesday afternoons so please let us know if you can spare an hour a week to help . The first sewing lesson being on Wednesday April 24th at 1.15.

Please let us know if you can help, even if you can’t commit to helping every week, just an hour or two would be so great. Thank you in advance.

It was lovely to see so many of you at the “Stay And Read” event last month.

This half term, P.E. will take place on Tuesday afternoons. Please come to school wearing P.E. kit (white t-shirt or polo shirt, black shorts or jogging bottoms, trainers and a sweatshirt or hoody). This will mean that you won’t need to carry bags of kit between home and school.

Please make sure you are reading at home at least four times a week. More and more children are receiving prizes for reaching the reading milestones – keep it up! We also love to hear about all the brilliant books you are reading so please come and tell us about them.

We update our Reading Reward Tracker on the wall every Friday morning and the children love moving their names along the track. Some of our Year 3’s have already made it to 250 reads and many more will achieve that this half term. Please keep going!

Parents, if you have any problems or want to discuss any issues with any of the teachers, please write in your child’s comment book as these will be checked regularly. Alternatively, please contact us using the year 3 email mailbox: year3@hempshillhallprimary.com .

We are all looking forward to another enjoyable half term.

Miss Cunliffe. Miss Slaney, Mrs Chamberlain, Miss Lydon and Miss Flint.
